DIY Floral Headband

Happy New Year's everyone!
Instead of your typical 2013 flashback I thought a fun and sparkly DIY would be more fun. So here it is, enjoy!

What you will need:
  • Scissors
  • Fake Flowers
  • Newspaper
  • Hot glue
  • Black spray paint (I used matte finish)
  • Sparkly silver spray paint
  • Gloves
  • Plain headband

{I originally was going to use mod podge, but it didn't quite work out so well. I definitely suggest using a hot glue gun}
Step 1:
Detach flowers from there stem. I bought this group of flowers from Michael's for around 5 USD. The flowers easily pop off just by pulling.

You want to make sure the base of the flower is still attached because the green part here is holding all the petals together. I didn't cut them at all because I wanted to use the little stem here to hold on to while spray painting.

Step 2:
Take flowers, I ended up using six for the one headband, but this will vary with whatever type of flower you are using, newspaper, gloves, and spray paint outside.

So once gloves are put on you can begin spraying the flowers with your black paint. Make sure not to get any in your eyes, that could be painful!

They should look like this:

Step 3:
After waiting about five minutes you can then spray them with your glitter. After full application let the flowers lay in the sun for at least an hour

Step 4:

Take dried flowers in inside. Use hot glue gun to attach flowers around the the headband. The flowers should cover the entirety of the headband.

Step 5:
Allow glue to dry and then head out in your awesome new floral crown!

{Pardon my blonde/orange hair, I am in the process of getting platinum!}
A few things to keep in mind:
This project has a lot of flexibility in it.
You can use an type of flower you would like.
You can use any color spray paint you want (I just thought the dark color plus sparkle was fitting for New Years!)
These make great gifts for friends and family and are super cheap and easy to do!

I hope you guys have had a wonderful 2013 and a lovely holiday. For me this year has been a bit of a struggle but finally things seem to be falling into place. I have only two New Year's resolutions this year, which is quite surprising, I normally have a whole list!

1. Learn a new language
2. Learn how to be happy with myself

The second is especially important me and is definitely something I have struggled with over the years. However I am feeling confident that if I really work at this year then only great things can come back out. Have you set your resolutions yet? I'd love to hear them .

Have a great day everyone!
